Esteban Peralta 2-18-09 WHH 6 “A Man For All Seasons” Q’s 1. What is Sir Thomas More’s position on Henry’s divorce and marriage of Anne Boleyn? Why? How is More able to survive taking this position? Sir Thomas More is completely and strongly against Henry’s divorce and marriage of Anne Boleyn because he remains a devout Catholic, believing Henry’s actions are deplorable in accordance to the Catholic doctrine. Taking this position, his only way to survive was to resign from the office of Chancellor. 2. What do Cromwell and Rich try to use against More to turn King Henry VIII against him? Cromwell and Rich conspire against More by saying that he accepted bribes when he was in office, such as the silver chalice cup that he gave to Rich that was given to More by a mistress. They said that once More knew it was a bribe, he gave it away. 3. Assess the so called trial held for More. How fair was it? Give several examples to show fairness or unfairness.
