Study Sheet for the Second Midterm Economics 115B The second midterm exam will be held in class on Thursday, February 18 th and will cover the material presented in the lecture and in discussion section since the first midterm. Below is a list of possible topics that could be on the exam and the details I find the most important. It is not a comprehensive list of everything that could be on the exam but is a good representation of the types of things you should know. Anything in the readings that was not mentioned in lecture or discussion section will not be on the exam. However, I recommend that you read the portions of the readings covered in the lectures and discussion section in order to get a solid understanding of the material. 1. Balance of Payments a. Know what makes up the current account and capital account b. Understand how balance is achieved c. Be able to understand and calculate “basic transfer” d. Know the trends in balance of payments in the developing countries in the last 30 years 2. The Debt Crisis a. Understand the events leading up to the debt crisis of the 1980s b. What were the factors that set up the developing countries for disaster between 1974 and 1979? c.
