Discussion The most efficient ionic compound that should be used in the production of a cold pack was determined to be Ammonium Nitrate. Ammonium nitrate has an average ∆H dissolution (heat of dissolution) of 11.0 kJ/mol. The most efficient ionic compound that should be used in the production of a hot pack was determined to be Calcium Chloride. Calcium Chloride has an average ∆H dissolution (heat of dissolution) -24.93 kJ/mol. These two ionic compounds are also the two compounds that cost the least amounts to produce. This means they can be sold for less to the consumer. The Dystan Medical Supply Company can make the most profit from selling hot packs containing an average of 34.45g of Calcium Chloride and cold packs containing an average of 35.14g of Ammonium Nitrate. The Dystan Medical Supply Company can sell the hot packs containing Calcium Chloride for $3.46 each and the cold packs containing Ammonium Nitrate for $3.12 each.
