INTRODUCTION Objective -To investigate the Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms for acetic acid/charcoal system. -To determine the specific area for charcoal . Theory The interaction between adsorbed molecules and solid surface varies over a wide range from weak nonpolar van der Waal’s forces( physisorption ) to strong chemical bonding ( chemisorption ). An adsorption isotherm relates the amount of substance adsorbed on a surface ( solid or liquid ) to its concentration in an adjacent bulk phase ( liquid or gas ) at a fixed temperature . In this experiment the applicability of the Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm will be tested . CALCULATION 1.
