Stephanie Schaeberle International Business News Summary #1 January 19 th , 2010 Global Corporate Citizenship in a Time of Need With the devastation that struck the small country of Haiti last week and the horrors continued earlier this week, the business world has put its best foot forward stepping up in an impressive act of global citizenship. Over 43 million dollars have been raised to donate to the various organizations attempting to help the situation in Haiti. “The US Chamber of Commerce said the 43 million dollars includes contributions from at least 122 companies, with 22 of them donating one million dollars or more.” (Yahoo News) Big name companies such as Verizon Wireless, Wal-Mart stores, and Procter and Gamble have all been strong players in this race to relieve the chaos in Haiti. Although many organizations and communities are collecting food and clothing to donate, theses businesses understand the importance of cash flowing into the country.
