It involved the building of complex molecules or breaking down of complex molecules. 2.) What is the main idea of the first law of thermodynamics, and how does this relate to the biological reactions we’ll be studying? The first law of thermodynamics states the energy is neither created nor destroyed. No matter what kind of energy transformation takes place, the amount of energy after the transformation equals the amount of energy before the transformation. This also tells us that the amount of energy in the Universe is finite. 3.) What is the main idea of the second law of thermodynamics, and how does this relate to the biological reactions we’ll be studying? In any energy conversion, not all energy after the conversion can be used. Some it lost to entropy. Energy conversions are never 100% efficient. Nature of the universe tends towards disorder.
