Ryan Stevens January 10, 2006 AP US History Block 1 Chapter 33 Reading Guide I Franklin D. Roosevelt – He was the 32 nd President of the United States and was born in 1882 and died in 1945. His term of office was from 1933 to 1945. During his time in office he led the United States through the Great Depression with his New Deal. Eleanor Roosevelt- She was the wife of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. She was an American human rights activist, stateswoman, journalist, educator, author, and diplomat. She was one of the most active first ladies by traveling around the US promoting the New Deal. Frances Perkins- In 1933 she was appointed as the Secretary of Department of Labor by Franklin D. Roosevelt. This was important because she was the first woman to be in the cabinet. This put her in line for President if the President should fall. Father Coughlin- 1930’s He was a Roman Catholic priest from Shrine of the Little Flower Catholic Church. He was the first priest and evangelists to preach over the radio during the Great Depression. Huey Long – He was a US Senator from 1932 to 1935 and supported Roosevelt in the
