Ryan Stevens January 11, 2006 AP US History Block 1 Chapter 33 Reading Guide II Securities & Exchange Commission- This was a part of the US government that was responsible for overseeing the regulation of the securities industry. Among other things the commission enforced the Securities Act of 1933, Investment Company Act of 1940, and other acts. Public Utility holding Company Act- This act was passed in 1935 in order to give effective state regulation of electric utilities by limiting their operations to a single state. The act was to keep companies in regulated businesses and not unregulated. Tennessee Valley Authority- This is an agency that was part of Roosevelt’s New Deal and it was created on May 18, 1933. the agency was used to generate electric power and overall during the Depression it was used to create jobs for those that suffered from the crash. Federal Housing Authority- This was a housing program that was issued in the Great Depression. This was a sort of government housing to help people get back on their feet. It is quite similar to today’s section 8 housing.
