Ryan Stevens January 29, 2006 AP US History Block 1 Chapter 38 Reading Guide "New Frontier" - This “new frontier” that he spoke of was the basis of his platform and policies. This is a term that was used by John F. Kennedy in his acceptance speech in 1960. “We stand at the edge of a New Frontier-the frontier of unfulfilled hopes and dreams.”- JFK Robert McNamara- He was a former US Secretary of Defense and business man that served as the Secretary from 1961 to 1968. He later became the President of the World Bank from 1968-1981. While under JFK he played a huge role in the Vietnam War with a policy of massive retaliation rather than passive actions. "Flexible Response" - This was a policy of John F. Kennedy in 1961. Rather than Massive Retaliation, Kennedy wanted a plan that left several options for dealing with the enemy. Bay of Pigs- This is a bay on the southern coast of Cuba. This is the site that John F. Kennedy planed an attack in 1961.
