Ryan Stevens February 6, 2006 AP US History Block 1 Chapter 39 Reading Guide War Powers Act- This act was passed in 1917 and is also known as the Trading With The Enemy Act. It is “An act to define, regulate, and punish trading with the enemy.” The act was enacted to label who was an enemy at the onset of WWI. "energy crisis"- This was a crisis in 1973 where OPEC decided not to ship petroleum to any nations that supported Israel during the Yom Kippur War. This included the US and led to a drought in oil in western countries and also caused the prices to inflate by four times. OPEC - This means the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries. This is a group that is made up of mainly middle eastern countries and has been in existence since 1965. The purpose of the group is to control and maintain policy on the petroleum industry. Watergate Scandal- The Watergate Scandal lasted for two years from 1972 to 1974. It was a political scandal that led to Richard Nixon resigning from the Presidency. The
