Ryan Fessler The Chosen One Page 292 Journal #1 Gary Smith’s story “The Chosen One” is an article describing Tiger Woods as a man who is destined to be great and have an impact on the world. It tells us about Woods’ father, Earl, and his thoughts on what Tiger will be like in the future. This argument could be causal but also an evaluation. What Tiger Woods does on the golf course may impact others, through children’s foundations to charity events raising money for the less fortunate. Smith is also trying to get other readers to buy in to what Earl Woods predicts about Tiger. Obviously, Smith believes what Earl says is true and that Tiger is the next big thing not only in sports, but the world. Tiger’s popularity has soared to unbelievable heights and he is probably the most recognizable athlete today. The causal argument describes how Tiger is of several ethnicities. This leads into how he draws different crowds of people to golf events and how many other kids of different races look up to him.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
