PHY-257 MP1 Manual Addendum V. Procedure Proceed as directed in the lab manual, but be advised of the following changes: 1) The frequency counter is integral to the signal generator, and can be read right from the display on the generator. 2) For the tube open at both ends, eqt. 5 should read 1.2 Ll R 3) For the tube open at one end, eqt. 5 should read 0.6 R 4) In section V4 you will use the modes m=4 and m=5 for the open-open and open-closed tubes respectively. VI For the report VI-1: Tabulate the standing wave frequencies, f, and the resonance order, m, measured in parts V(2) and V(3). VI-2: Using Excel, plot the data taken in V(2). With the LINEST function (as described in the tutorial) calculate the slope and the uncertainty in the slope of this data. From the slope and uncertainty in that slope calculate the speed of sound, v s and the uncertainty in the speed of sound vs . Report your answer as s s v v . VI-3: Repeat VI-2 for the data taken in step V(3).
