PHY-257 MP2 Manual Addendum V. Procedure General Comments: Wherever the procedure tells you to sketch a waveform, you should use the PC based webcam to take a photo of the oscilloscope screen. Your own digital camera or cell phone camera will also be sufficient. You MUST bring a USB flash drive to remove your pictures from the lab PCs. Channel 2 should be connected to the trigger output of the synthesizer, and the oscilloscope should trigger from channel 2. Generally, you will not display channel 2 except as described below. V-4: Fourier Synthesis Use the following procedure to construct the waveforms using the synthesizer. Note that to get the “c” terms listed in Table 1 of the manual (these would be the A n or cosine terms of the series) the phase switches need to be all at 0. To get the “s” terms in Table 1, (these would be B n or cosine terms of the series), the variable phase and 0-180 phase switches need to be at 0 and the 0- 90 phase switch needs to be at 90. The reason for this is apparent when one considers that the cosine function leads the sine function by 90 degrees. 1)
