MP11 RCL Circuits and resonance PHY 257 In this lab we will complete the following tasks: a. In an AC RC circuit we will measure the phase difference φ . C Cc cu wew e sue ep sed ee ce between the current I and the voltage V C across C b. In an AC RL circuit we will measure the phase difference φ p between the current I and the voltage V L across L c. In an AC RCL circuit we determine the resonant frequency f R for which the current I is maximum. From f R we will determine the inductance L d. We will add a ferromagnetic core inside the inductor and repeat part c . We will determine the new inductance L ' and from that the permeability μ of the core py (page 1)

Phase difference φ between I and V C Use the circuit shown in the figure 1000 Hz 6000 To Ch1: V R f = 1000 Hz , R = 6000 , C = 0.002 μ F ote: R Common Note: Channel 1 of the oscilloscope measures V R which is proportional to(and in C phase with) I . Channel 2 measures V C instead. We n invert Ch 2 by using the To Ch2: -V can invert Ch 2 by using the “POSITION” knob. By pulling that knob out, you will invert the picture of C Ch 2 and the scope will show V C in the proper phase wrt V R .
