BioG 1110 Final will be held May 13 th from 7:00 – 9:30 pm. Exam Location Barton Hall. 1 BioG 110 Final Exam Review Guide 2010 The Final Exam for BioG110 is worth 160 points. Coverage for the final exam will include information covered throughout the semester during lecture and lab. The best way to prepare for this exam is to use this review guide to help facilitate your review of all the lecture questions Randy has posted for each lecture throughout the semester – the guide will help you to discern which questions summarize the main concepts. I will create a list of people you should know and remember why they were important to science. Good luck with all your finals & Have a wonderful summer!! Randy will be happy to help you if you get stuck on any of the following questions pertaining to all his review questions! Use ppt slides, Prelim 1 & 2, Randy’s review questions to help you prepare to answer the following: (1) What is the difference between a monist and a dualist? Can you identify examples of each? (2) What are emergent properties? (3) What is photosynthesis? Where does it occur and what does it achieve? (4) What is phototropism? (5) What is Calorimetry and what did trials using ONLY calorimetry indicate about the “value” or fruits & vegetables Vs potatoes and meat? (6) Be able to estimate the volume of blood that a heart can pump in a given amount of time [given the values for the following attribute values – volume pumped per beat, heart rate, volume equivalents [e.g. # ml in a liter]. (7) Be able to trace the path followed by oxygen as it enters your lungs and travels through your heart to your body. (8) Revisit the ppt series on the “evils” of fast food consumption – do you really know how many calories you are consuming? Can you calculate how many calories you’d consume and need to burn off using the MacDonald’s link (see ppt)? Be able to calculate how many pounds of fat a given diet will contribute to weight gain. (9) What is Insulin-like growth factor -1 (IGF-1) and what effect would producing more of this have on an individual’s body? What effect would producing less of this have on an individual’s body? (10) What are the differences between fast and slow twitch muscles?
