Functions for Brain Structures: CBNS 106 Medulla - decussation of fibers/regulation of autonomic functions (adjusts heart rate, blood pressure, respiration). Pons - control of breathing movements/regulates states of attentiveness and arousal. Midbrain: Superior Colliculus -processes and carries sensory information about vision. Inferior Colliculus - processes and carries sensory information about audition. Thalamus - relays sensory information to the higher brain structures. Hypothalamus - hormone and autonomic control. Pituitary gland - important endocrine organ that secretes many hormones Meninges - protective covering of the central nervous system. Dura Mater - outermost layer/tough and inelastic. Pia Mater - innermost layer/separated from Arachnoid layer by CSF-filled subarachnoid space. Arachnoid Mater - middle layer, just beneath the Dura Mater. Cerebrospinal fluid - bathes and cushions CNS/nourishes and removes waste from CNS. Cerebellum
