Topics include: axial stresses and strains; shear stresses and strain; torsion; bending and shear stresses in beams; deformation of beams; combined loading; stress transformation; columns. Course Objectives Develop the relationship between the loads applied to a non-rigid body and the internal forces and deformations induced in the body. Study the relations between stress and strain for different type of loadings (tension, compression, torsion, and bending). Develop adequate techniques for finding the required dimensions of a member of a specified material to carry a given load subject to stated specifications of stress and deformation. Study the general state of stresses and strains in a given loaded member and the magnitude and direction of the principal stresses.
