(20 pts) Hexane , Cyclohexanone, Dimethyl ether, Tetrahydrofuran, Ethanol, Water To select a suitable solvent for recrystallization, take a small sample (20 – 30 mg) of the compound to be recrystallized, place it in a test tube, and add 5 – 10 drops of a trial solvent. Shake the tube to mix the materials. If the compound dissolves immediately, then it too soluble in the solvent for to obtain suitable yields of crystals from recrystallization. If no solubility is observed, heat the solvent to its boiling point. If complete solubility is observed, cool the solution to induce crystallization.
