What have archaeological investigations revealed about the construction of Ft. Negley and the lives of those who occupied it? Fort Negley was constructed mostly by slave. The Union forces occupied the fort, since it was constructed after they had taken Nashville from the Confederates. During the reconstruction, the fort was occupied for meetings of the KKK. 2. In your opinion, was the 1930's reconstruction of the fort, funded by the Works Progress Administration, a hindrance to further archaeological investigation? Does it help the public understand Ft. Negley and its role in the Civil War and/or imagine the events that took place there? Why or why not? I think that the reconstruction was a hindrance to our understanding of the fort in context to the Civil War. With the reconstruction, there was an interpretation of the fort to those who constructed it. This reconstruction inhibits archaeologists from digging and thoroughly
