3 In this lab, the four different cores provided were placed in a retort. The retort heated the cores to high temperatures which caused the pore fluids present to vaporize. The vapors were then passed through the cold water bath which caused them to condense again. This condensed vapor was collected in a graduated cylinder and its volume was measured. After collecting the data from the graduated cylinder, correction factors were applied to the oil volumes. Correction factors were applied to determine the gas, oil, and water saturations in the oil-saturated brine- flooded core and the brine-saturated oil-flooded core. A plot of the volume of water collected from the brine-saturated core was made to determine the amount of bound water given off by the clays. Some experimental errors were encountered during the experiment. Also, there were some necessary safety precautions taken throughout the lab. The following section discusses the overall objective of the experiment. OBJECTIVE/GOAL
