Writing strategies: What are they and how can they help?According to (College Success, 2015), "academic writing refers to writing produced in a collegeenvironment." As such, certain rules apply. For example, you might be asked to summarize areading in your own words, or critically analyse a written piece. For the inexperienced writer,this can be quite daunting and they may be tempted to go off on a tangent to fulfil a word count.When writing academically, one needs to stay on point, logically organise your ideas andthoughts, as well as be able to transcribe those thoughts digitally or manually.Writing an essay or letter in English is not difficult for me as English is my native language. I amalso a reader, which means that my vocabulary has been expanded through extensive reading. Ithink that if I had to write a 700-word essay in a foreign language I would struggle to do so. Thisis why I admire those who write in their second or third language. This is no mean feat!
