Sept. 3 rd : Too much: -Regime: high flow, too much water -traditional solutions: increase capacity of the channel (ie. dykes, NOLA) -or decrease the volume of water; catch water (dam) for flood control *probably not possible for us to build anything that will catch all floods -other ways to reduce high flow: have it soak in (wildlife management perspective) -low flows: catch water in high flow time then release during low flows but the return is only 8ft released for every 10 caught Solutions to Water Quality Problems: *there is no solution if the problem is naturally occurring, from a wildlife management stand point -what to do: develop another source, get water from somewhere else (solution to pollution is dilution) mix in other, better quality water -treatment: run through a water treatment plant -if the problem is human induced, don’t pollute so much, cut back on whatever the pollutant is -temperature is a quality issue too, something maybe too hot for some and too cold for others -types of pollution: point source- can be traced to one specific thing (out of
