Heat is added to the water at constant pressure until the entire liquid is vaporized. (a) What is the mass of the water? (b) What is the final temperature? (c) Show the process on a T-v diagram with respect to saturation lines. SOLUTION: @ 25°C, P sat = 3.169 kPa, P > P sat , so it is compressed liquid. Since compressed liquid properties for 300 kPa is not available in Tables, saturated liquid properties @ 25°C will be taken. From table B.1.1, ν = 0.001003 m 3 /kg. (a) kg V m 85 . 49 001003 . 0 1000 / 50 = = = ν (b) At constant pressure, the piston-cylinder device is heated. When all liquid is vaporized, there will be satured water vapor inside the cylinder. From table B.1.2, @ 300 kPa, T final = T sat = 133.55 o C (c) 2 – A 0.5-m 3 rigid tank contains saturated mixture of refrigerant-134a at 200 kPa. If the saturated liquid occupies 10% of the volume, determine the quality and total mass of the refrigerant in the tank.
