Hemoglobin S, contains a single point mutation (Glu6 Val) that promotes polymerization of the tetramer by a mechanism in the valine binds to a hydrophobic pocket on the surface of the beta subunit that is only present in the tense state. Individuals who are homozygous for the sickle cell allele and are severely anemic often have elevated BPG in their red blood cells. What are the consequences of this elevated level of BPG? Question 3. (8 points) How does the total enzyme concentration affect the turnover number and V max ?
