Many conservative groups argue that education using bilingualism has two major downsides. One is that it keeps the country from remaining united because of people being unable to communicate and understand one another. The other argument being made is that it handicaps children who are of non-English speaking origin by restricting communication which could affect future jobs and life choices (Campbell, 2010). Some groups believe that because of the staggering number of children that speak “minority-languages” at home, it is an asset to not only teach them English, but to further the use of their current language. This will enable them to continue to communicate well with people of the same language and give them more opportunities in the job market (Net Industries, 2010). Bilingualism in politics is commonly frowned upon by voters. The major reason for this is because people in the United States look at English as the only language that matters.
