Peru State College BUS 252 – Commercial Law Syllabus – Fall 2007   Instructor: Robert B. Lundholm, JD Office Hours: I am an adjunct Professor and have no office; therefore no office  hours Office Telephone: 402-504-4776 leave message on voice mail Email Address: RLundholm@oakmail.peru.edu Course Meets: Online (8-Week Term) Required Textbook: West’s Business Law, Cross, published by West, a division of Thomson Learning This   course   examines   the   legal   principles   covering   sales   contracts   and   negotiable  instruments   under   the   Uniform   Commercial   Code,   property   ownership,   bailments,  corporations, partnerships and other business organizations. Prerequisites: BUS251 -  Legal Environment and Contract Law  Upon completion of this course a student should be able to:   1.     Understand and articulate the fundamental principles of law governing sales contracts and  the authority of the Uniform Commercial Code; 2.     Understand and articulate the fundamental principles of law governing the making and  transferability of negotiable instruments, including “holder in due course” concepts; 3.     Understand and articulate the fundamental principles of law governing property ownership  (both real and personal) and bailments; 4.     Understand and articulate the fundamental principles of law governing sole proprietorships,  franchises, partnerships and limited liability forms of business; 5.     Understand and articulate the fundamental principles of law governing the formation and  operation of corporations, including acquisitions and terminations; 6. Apply principles learned in the course to analyze and resolve hypothetical cases; 7. Demonstrate effective written communication skills and evaluate and critique the reasoning  of others in a mature, thoughtful and respectful manner

  As an eight-week online (Internet) course, we will move very quickly through a lot of  material.  Each week you will be assigned the following tasks: a) Reading chapters from the textbook; b) Reviewing lecture notes about the reading  (this is optional, but it may help you  understand the material in the chapter) ; c) (worth up to 30 points each week) ; d)     Completing   an   individual   homework   assignment   consisting   of   three   essay  questions related to the material  (worth up to 21 points each week) ; e)    Posting replies and discussion to other classmates on the main discussion board  (worth up to 9 points each week).
