1. Define the term impulse . A. Impulse is the product of force and the time interval during which the force acts. Impulse produces a change in momentum in an object. 2. Using the principle of momentum conservation, explain what happens when a moving billiard ball collides with a stationary ball (cue ball hitting the eight ball). A. The cue ball hits the 8 ball and since the external force of the moving cue ball hits the stationary force of the 8 ball’s momentum will increase, while the cue balls momentum will decrease. 3. Explain the difference between energy and power and how they are related to work. Give examples of each). A. Energy – Is simply the ability to do work – someone pushing against a car or a chair is exerting energy. B. Power – is the amount of work done over a period of time. A car with a powerful engine can make a car go faster or slower depending on the amount of time the work is done. C.
