In this activity, you will use sources from the AP U.S. History Research Library and your own research to learn about life for industrial workers during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Using this historical background, you will then construct a fictional narrative about an industrial worker during this period. Here is your writing assignment: Write a fictional account about an industrial worker living in a U.S. urban center during the late 1800s or early 1900s. Describe the worker's lifestyle and occupation, and at least one major historical event — such as a major strike or factory disaster — that affects him or her. This section is worth 30 points. Step 1: Read through each of the three sources on American industrialization in the AP U.S. History Research Library. Step 2: Conduct your own research into the lives of industrial workers during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Step 3: Complete the table below to organize your research in preparation for writing a piece of historical fiction about a worker's life during industrialization.
