In the United States the economic costs of the STDs is about 20 billion a year. Diseases such as AIDS are deadly and the others bring about a lot of human suffering. STDs cause some women to become infertile and increase their risks of cancer. 2. List the risk factors for contracting an STD. There are many STD risk factors. Multiple sexual partners are probably the dominant reason for the continued spread of STDs. A false sense of safety also makes the situation worse because a lot of people think that there is a cure for every STD. Some people do not treat their conditions because they are embarrassed. Drugs and alcohol also contribute towards the problem because people do not make the best decisions while intoxicated. By making good decisions one can significantly reduce their chances of catching a disease. 3.
