Interpersonal roles: figurehead, leader, liaison 2. Informational roles: monitor, disseminator, spokesperson, analyzer 3. Decisional roles: entrepreneur, disturbance handler, resource allocator, negotiator Why managers need IT support Te number of alternatives to be considered is constantly increasing due to technology. Decisions must be made under time pressure. Decisions are becoming more complex and require a sophisticated analysis. Access remote information rapidly, consult experts, or conduct group decision-making. Information technologies that are available to support managers are collectively referred to as business intelligence (BI) and intelligent systems. Three broad categories that encompass all managerial decisions 1. Operational control —executing specific tasks efficiently and effectively 2. Management control —acquiring and using resources efficiently in accomplishing organizational goals 3. Strategic planning —setting the long-range goals and policies for growth and resource allocation 9.2 Business Intelligence, Multidimensional Data Analysis, Data Mining, and Decision Support Systems
