16 B IRDS AND F IELD N OTES L ABORATORY 2 LEARNING OBJECTIVES (1) Identify 10 common campus bird species (2) Observation and Habitat Descriptions (3) Sketches and Field Notes Student Learning Objectives After completing this lab, you should: (1)Be able to identify from memory at least 10 birds found on campus (2)Know how to observe a habitat and describe it (3)Use your experience in lab to make a habitat sketch and take field notes I. Bird Identification Please familiarize yourself with the following common campus birds: Please use the power point on-line to aid in identification of the birds. 1. Zebra dove 2. Pacific golden plover 3. Common myna 4. Spotted dove 5. Red crested cardinal 6. Red vented bulbul 7. Red whiskered bulbul 8. Japanese white eye 9. Common waxbill 10. Java sparrow You will be quizzed on their common names and expected to identify them (among other information throughout this lab exercise). Please make sure you review how to take measurement estimates (from Lab 1) since you will need those skills today! II. Observation Skills
