REL 150 Lecture 9 14:13 Leviticus 15 What makes uncleanness (for men) in these verses? o Infected discharge, and having sex and this uncleanness is contagious by  simple contact  What makes uncleanness (for women) in these verses? o Women are unclean during their period, and when any irregular discharge  occurs  Sacrifice What was its meaning to ancient Israelites? o We aren’t entirely sure but the bible outlines guidelines to go through  ritualistic sacrifice o Priests are the “sacrifice experts” so to speak, they are charged with  making sure the sacrifice is done correctly Ritual Purity  The bible categorizes people into two categories: clean and unclean There is no moral implication here in terms of sin because uncleanness was  natural and unavoidable (uncleanness is a universal experience) Holiness (ID term) Refers to God wanting the Israelites to be different from other ancient
