Article Title: A Chicana Perspective on Feminism Author: Beatriz M. Pesquera and Denise A. Segura Week Reading was assigned: July 21, 2008 Name: Jordan MacDonald Keywords: Chicanas, American’s Woman Movement, Feminist Theory and Chicana Concerns, white-middle class, race, inequality, social class Reading Summary: This reading is primarily a study on Chicana reactions to the Americans Woman movement. An overwhelmingly large percent of Chicana women interviewed greatly criticized the movement because it failed to increase Chicana life chances. Overall they thought the movement was very one-sided, as it only addressed the desires of upper-middle class white women. Chicanas view their issues as through a triple-oppression lens where they are an oppressed group with a distinct racial/ethnic/class status that sets them apart from white women’s needs and excludes them from the Women’s Centers benefits.
