Glenda COMM REVIEW 1. Give an ex and define status conferral  of media: when the media focuses  on someone and confers their status in society. 2. Why do networks need affiliates? Programming and another source of  income/money.  Affiliates need networks for ads through networks. 3. Ex essay question     : You are the speaker at a tabloid newspaper  convention, you are asked to speak about ethical journalism, what issues  would you be sure to discuss, figure of speech, and possible ramifications  of unethical behavior. Use lecture and two taking sides article.  Use plenty  Ratings in the media. Rating system targeting certain material, could be  ethical concerns with this.  Should pertain to journalism (don’t write about  FCC) 4. Ex of short answers from Taking Sides: should know first amendment and  restriction on tobacco ads-4 part test.  If ad can’t pass 3 and 4 of test, it  violates amendment. 5. ISSUE 13: Independent media groups and grass roots organizations.  Grass roots organizations really making cause and plight known in  community-going to local churches.  The idea is that politicians don’t want  to do much because they receive large donations from companies and  aren’t really accountable to public.  Grass roots organizations have to start  connecting.  Location based services-FCC can monitor your cell phones
