CLASSICS 40 A. N. Athanassakis WINTER 2010 MIDTERM STUDY GUIDE The midterm will be Monday, February 8, 2010 . The test will consist of 50 questions, half multiple choice and half true/false. Please bring a pencil and a green scantron. The following guidelines will assist you as you prepare: 1. Please know the outline of the plot of the Iliad and of the Odyssey . 2. Reread, partly or wholly, Iliad 1, 2 (lines 1-493), 3, 6 (236-529), 9 (1-420), 14 (1-351), 16 (419-867), 18 (368-616), 19, 21 (1-382), 22, 23 (1-257), 24. READ SUMMARY 1 26 3. In the same fashion, review Odyssey 1, 3 (1-228), 4 (1-569), 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 (1-234 and 385-640), 15 (1-129), 16 (1-224), 17, 18, 19, 21, 23, 24. READ SUMMARY 4. Be able to identify from the Iliad and/or the Odyssey the following names: each name will lead you to some idea, concept or idea; Achaia – greeks Achaians Achilleus Aegisthus Agammenon’s wife’s lover who killed him Aiolos – king of the island of the winds Agamemnon Aias (Ajax)
