Creation of Israel: Israel vs. the Arab States The emergence of the Israeli state Jewish nationalist- in order to protect its better interests need a nation-state(Zionist) Palestine was the Jewish nation-state Palestine: 1914-1945 Balfour Declaration (1917)- british had openly supported the creation of a Jewish nation- state British was given control of this nation-state due to the mandate system People had been settling in Palestine, Arabs were already living in Palestine Conflicts: both groups saw armed forces as the only way to protect themselves and to maintain their interests British rule in Palestine (1919-1947) o Wanted to make sure that the Jewish settlers could live safely in Palestine, but also wanted to make sure that the Arabs were not treated badly as a result o In order to reconcile these two sides was to deal with the problem of too many Jewish settlers coming into Palestine o Control Jewish immigration.
