Ch. 6 18:29 Ch. 6 Essay Question o Siamese cats are born white.  They quickly develop dark ears, nose, feet and  tail.  If I were to put an ice pack on their back for a long period of time, I can  stimulate them to form a dark spot in the area with the ice.  What is happening  here? Answer o It has to do with temperature and enzyme function.  The enzymes that make  the black pigment work best at a temperature somewhat lower than body  temperature and are inhibited at body temperature.  The nose, ears, feet and  tail of the cat are located the furthest from the body and are somewhat cooler  in temperature so the enzyme can work properly.  So, if this is true, will cats  that spend more time in a cooler environment be darker than those cats that  spend more time in a warmer environment? Probably… Ch. 6 Concept Map o Endergonic
