TEMPERATURE The way a transducer functions is that it senses a physical element (Temperature of a solution) and transforms it into a measurable output, usually in current or voltage. Thermocouple Thermocouples are based on the Seabeck Effect, which is ; the production of a voltage between two dissimilar, joined metals that is proportional to the temperature at that junction. (+)Copper VTC= αΔT (for small changes in Temp.) (-)Constantan This is a “Type T” metal pair. Constantan/Copper Thermocouples can have two more junctions where the wires connect to the instrumentation. This must be countered by placing these junctions at a reference temperature or your instrument may take these extra voltages into account. Cu
