 APPLIED ECONOMICS, 2009-2010 Code IBMEC308R2 ECTS 3 ECTS Year of  Study Second  Year Block  Third Block Contact Hours per Week 4 Contact Hours Study Load Contact Hours 32 Literature Reading 16 Self Study 18 Coursework 16 Exam   2 Total 84 ROM         The  “knowledge-driven”  and  the   “practise-driven”  educational  methods  of   the  Rotterdam Educational Models of ROM [ Rotterdam Onderwijs Model ], is evident in the learning  materials prescribed in this course. These two methods are equally exercised in a weekly  meeting within the whole course. Each topic prescribed in this module has a corresponding  practical exercise or case that connects the theory to the real market situation. Contribution to IBMS Profile/Competencies  Student knows recent developments in the society and business world. Student dares to present new ideas and concepts. Student sees in a deeper perspective the degree of complexity of economic policy changes. Student recognizes economic and global changes over time. Student designs, selects and judges various scenarios. Student begins to gain broader understanding of the external factors with which managers  must deal. Dublin Descriptor(s)     The knowledge and understanding of theories and economic issues are not  only recognized but also used for establishing a sound decision. A scientific  method of analysis is used to come up with strong recommendations to  sustainability of the business sector. Relation with other modules/subjects   Strong relations with the European Affaires is  evident from this module. The complimentary consistencies of this module with Quantitative  Methods, Research Methods, Applied Logistics, International Business and Applied Finance  and Accounting are evident in the weekly course contents. Furthermore, IBMEC308R2 lays the  basic theoretical foundations for the fourth year Globalization subject, focussing International  Economics and Policy.
