Richard Canada CE 350 HW#1 1) NEPA’s definition of sustainable development is humans and nature “can exist in productive harmony, and fulfill the social, economic and other requirements of present and future generations of Americans”(EPA) A buisness definition would be a business produces goods and services in such a way that it doesn’t harm any of the environment in any way. United Nations states “the right to development must be fulfilled so as to equitably meet developmental and environmental needs of present and future generations.”(Hecht) In comparing these definitions to the Brundtland Commission’s defintion of sustainability definitely compares ideally to the environmental definition and the UN’s definition but with the business definition there are contrasting conflicts. In business, they only want to make sure they don’t harm the environment in the present and don’t even mention the future generations of people and the environment over time. In business they seem to keep it broad and not precise in what exactly they’re trying to sustain. Basically the business is just trying to cover there own
