Lisha Wang BUAD304 Chris Bresnahan HW2-Lec 1. If you calculate the person-hour to IBM’s team projects, they amount to more than 180,000 hours of management time each year. Do you think this is a wise investment of IBM’s human resources? It is a wise investment. Although teamwork takes more time and more resources than individual work, the work of IBM’s group would be better done in teams because it would benefit a lot from collective effort. People in a team, especially multicultural team, would come up with different perspectives, which would make the work done more creative and efficient. Also, it is beneficial to implement teams if the group shares a common purpose or set of goals, and IBM Company match these criteria with a common goal to absorb different culture through volunteer program. Another test to see whether a team better than individual work is the interdependence between tasks, the success of the whole depends on the success of each one, and the success of each one depends on the success of the others. And learning culture requires the efforts from both sides. Previous research has shown that groups perform better than the average individual. And just like what we did in ELC the survival experiment, we found out that teams actually perform better than
