Unformatted text preview: Monica Stierman 10/05/2010 ELE 3600 Teaching Social Studies Using Computer Technology There have been some studies associated with trying to teach social studies to elementary students with the use of computer programs. In the article I decided to critique “ Effectiveness of Computer Technology in the Social Studies: A Review of the Literature ”, which summarized some key advantages and disadvantages in using computer programs related to social studies instruction. Since we are living in a computer technology age, it is important to look at what would work using a computer and would not work. This article points out about how some social studies teachers use computer games and stimulations in order for students to study history. Some computer games that you could use in your classroom could be off a website, like Scholastic.com where they have various games that students can diverse in all kinds of social studies instruction: history, economics, anthropology, and so on.
