Monica Stierman 10/23/2010 ELE 3600 Article Review #3 This article, Social Studies for Early Childhood and Elementary School Children: Preparing for the 21st Century i , written in 1988, talked about different strategies that need to be done and goals set for our students in order to make sure that social studies maintains an important aspect in elementary education. It also talked about who more research needs to be done to figure out what else can be included in social studies teaching and learning. If you think about the way that social studies is taught today versus what was being done when this article was published in 1988, we have come a long way, but more needs to be done. We as educators need to understand the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to be successful in the classroom, especially when it comes to teaching social studies instruction.
