Appreciating cohesion The tallest living tree is a 112 meter tall 1000 year old Coastal Redwood ( Sequoia sempervirens) in California The metric system is centered around water I 1 cm 3 = 1 mL = 1 g A 1 cm 2 column of water the height of 112 meters would weigh: I 112 m = 11,200 cm * 1 g / cm3 = 11,200 g = 11.2 kg or ~24.6 pounds The 3 m diameter = ~791,280,000 g = 791,280 kg = 1,740,816 pounds of water!
