JOB AD I have misplaced the original file that I saved of this job ad, and it has been taken off of the internet just recently as I have interested the employer in my position for the job. Mitch, First, I am a graduate of Purdue, class of 1996. Tell me a bit about the program these days- equipment you’re using, teachers you have, etc. so I can see how things have changed. As far as the internship goes, I want to make sure you understand a few things. First, we are not part of the Walt Disney Company. While we are located on the backlot of the Disney-MGM Studios, we are completely independently owned and operated. Therefore, our internship is not associated with the Disney College Program. Our internships are unpaid and usually constitute 20-30 hours of work per week. We have found that 20-30 hours gives you enough time to learn while also leaving time if you need to find a job to pay the bills. Specific responsibilities/tasks of the inters are as follows: Knowledge of machines- digital beta, DVCam, beta sp, VHS (HD would be a bonus) Make labels for tapes/disks Barcode tapes Break receptionist for lunch File papers for finance department Pick up lunches & dinners for clients Drive to and from local clients and/or freelance people (mileage will be reimbursed) Basic Avid Experience- not necessarily editing but know how to digitize, import music, import graphics, make slates, layoff Will spend most of time in machine room doing dubs and in tape library keeping things clean & organized Understanding of the importance of professionalism If this sounds like something you’re interested in, let me know and we can at least set some ground work for an interview once you get down here. JOB AD ANALYSIS 1.) Why did you choose this job ad? Do you feel that you are qualified for the position? I chose this job add because it is the type of job I need to begin my career in the film industry. My background in film and video studies and artistic and creative skills make me qualified for this job. 2.) How long has the ad been posted? Are you sure the position is still available? How? The job was posted on January 19, 2006. I emailed the employer to see if the job still remained available. I have heard heard back from the decision-maker of internships and he has notified me that I can come in for an interview during Spring break. Amazingly, the job ad has been removed since I have been talking to him back and forwth through email. 3.) Where is the company located? Are you willing to move? The company is located in Lake Buena Vista, Florida (which is basically Orlando, Florida). The production studio is located within the gates of Disney MGM Studios Theme Park (in the back lot). I have family in Florida and was born in Florida. I look forward to moving to Florida anyways after college for the rest of my life.
