Discussion Starter #7--Due in lecture, Tues., 11/23 OR Tues., 11/30 You do not need to be in a Psychology class in order to be exposed to frequent representations of psychological disorders (and speculation as to their causes, treatment, etc.). Popular television shows such as 90210, The United States of Tara, and Monk all feature major characters experiencing psychological disorders. A recent film, It’s Kind of a Funny Story , starring Zach Galifianakis was set within an inpatient psychiatric facility while classic films such as One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest and Sybil also focused on psychological disorders and their treatment. These are just a few examples of the many, many available. Our final Discussion Starter is designed to give you the opportunity to assess a popular media portrayal of a specific psychological disorder.
