Essays vs. Articles Essays show the author’s position or point of view, while articles try to show an unbiased and neutral point of view. They have a different structure. While they both present facts, articles focus more on the them and less on opinions.

The Thesis Statement The thesis statement is one sentence (or possibly a few) that declares the main idea of the whole essay. This is a lot like what the topic sentence does for a paragraph.
