Fabiola Flores Mrs. Karen Dorman World Literature I 11/11/2019 Medieval Period Signature Assignment Throughout the entire world history, there have been many events that make up the world as we know it. Due to those things, the time periods are separated into distinct categories. Each time has led the way for the next period. The classical period led the way for the medieval period. The medieval period began in the 5 th century and concluded in the 15 th century; it lasted about 1,000 years. The medieval period is characterized by feudalism, church power, chivalry, and crusades. Medieval literature was impacted on these events, many authors based their stories on those events; such is the case of the literary works called Beowulf and Bisclavret . The Medieval period, or middle ages, is known by its feudalism, church power, chivalry, and crusades. Feudalism was a social system in medieval Europe were the church had most authority. According to the “The Norton Anthology of Western Literature,” in spite of the fact that the period is frequently depicted as an “age of faith,” the compromise to Catholic Christianity was neither uniform nor ailing in a comprehension of its difficulties and logical inconsistencies. The Medieval period is also known as the age of “chivalry.” As the previous article of Western Literature mentions, chivalry is a code which exemplifies gentility, concern for the powerless, generosity, and a capacity for experiencing selfless and passionate romantic love.
