How Central? How important? - If people had combination of ratings, then maybe they have a well-organized schema in memory.- Do you have a self schema in this domain? - Words related to “independence” and unrelated to “independence,” ask if they apply to you... Your reaction time in judging the related items will be much faster Can generate examples in own life when you have acted independently. Implication - The representation you have of yourself in memory, is going to constrain how you process new information. - New information that ’ s consistent with what you believe will be processed easily. - Things that are inconsistent with the mental representations you already have, is less likely to be seen by you.
