Post Lab Questions: 1.) The “minerals” were not evenly distributed throughout the cookie. Chocolate chips were in random locations; in some places on the cookie chips were closer together, and in other places chips were farther apart. 2.) Not all land could be restored. The cookie type we used (“Chips Deluxe”) crumbled easily and thus it was hard to reconstruct. 3.) Naturally, advanced knowledge of the need to restore land increases concern that enough money will be made to make a profit. This concern leads to a desire to complete mining operations quickly. In addition, if a time restraint is added (like having to have a lab procedure done in a single class), knowledge of the need to restore land means less time available for mining. 4.) Tersely speaking, it cost money and time to restore land. Tools, workers, and materials all come into play during a land restoration project. Legislation that requires land to be restored, therefore, requires workers to be paid, materials to be used, and energy (among other things like water and restroom facilities).
